Today's Readings reflect on the theme of leadership of the people of God. The shortcomings of the leaders of the Jewish people at the end of the 7th Century BC are condemned. Jesus highlights the the plight of the people of his own day who lack credible leadership. Mark underlines Jesus's willingness to make good this deficiency & his authority to do so. (from St. Paul Sunday Missal 2009) In the Gospel Jesus tells the Apostles, who had returned from mission, to come away & rest. We need rest to recover physically, emotionally & spiritually from life's demands. Time to take stock of where we are & to where we're headed. To take time to be a friend, a parent & to enjoy our status as a child of God; to appreciate & to thank God for his grace & kindness to us. We gather the energy to run the next miles on our journey with Him, and toward Him.
