International Eucharisti c Congress is to be held in Dublin in 2012. Each year, on the feast of Corpus Christi, all Parishes are asked to hold a collection to meet the expenses. Since we have had several collections since Easter I will send on St. Patrick's Day collection for this.

Priests Retreat for Achonry Diocese will be from Sun. eve 21st. to Thurs. 25th.

Cemetery Mass will be at 11.30 on Sunday 2nd. August- Bank holiday weekend.

Rooskey N.S . End of Year, Thanksgiving Mass is on Friday morning at 11am. All welcome.
Since, of the 9 pupils on roll 7 are in 6th. Class & will be finishing, the B.O.M. has informed the Patron Bishop Kelly to give notice to the Dept. of Education that sadly, the School will close. It was Fri. 20th last year that we had the raising of the Green Flag. 094-9255096.

Carracastle Childcare Pre-School, After-School Official Opening was a year ago- Fri. 20th.

The 'Year of the Priest' has been proposed by Pope Benedict, to begin next Fri. 19th, Feast of the Sacred Heart. 150th Anniv. of death of St. John Vianney- Cure of Ars, patron of P.Ps.
Invitation to the Cathedral Ballaghaderreen on Fri. eve at 9pm when the priests of Achonry Diocese will say Evening Prayer of the Church to mark the start of the 'Year of the Priest'. Also, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Benediction at 10pm.

Parish Pastoral Council next Sunday pamphlet will be issued and a nomination slip for you to elect members to form a Parish Pastoral Council that is representative in gender, age & area. It is timely to have this development sharing of responsibility where parishioners with priest form a leadership team; a noticeable decline in Mass attendance is of concern for some time. You will be asked to put forward 3 names- a woman, a man & a person of under 30 years. If you could be thinking of suitable people to nominate between next Sun. 21st & Sun. 28th Since the meetings at Knock some years ago 6 neighbouring parishes have formed a Cluster, There were meetings for reps from each Marian Marren & Margaret Henry from Carracastle

Wedding Congratulations & best wishes to Paul Coleman, of Palmfield & Anne Rainsford of Anagh, Lisnagry, Newport getting married on Thurs. 18th. They will live in Clonee, Dublin.

Congratulations to Colette (Goonan) & Jimmy Roddy, of Cloonlumney, on the birth of baby Fionan James, 18 May, & to Cathal, Donagh & Eile, living at Glencorrib.

Diamond Jubilee Congratulations & Best Wishes to Fr. Sean Caulfield of Carracastle, who on 19 June 1949 was ordained priest at All Hallows, Dublin. A member of the Cistercian Order in U.S.A., for many now retired from parish work in Lewiston, Idaho.
Brother of Chris Coleman here, Maureen- Dublin, Michael- Castlebar, Brendan- Los Angeles.

Golden Jubilee Our congratulations to Monsignor John Doherty, P.P., Gurteen who will celebrate his 50th. Anniversary of Ordination next Sunday 21st. at 7pm in Gurteen Church. Fr. John always proclaims that he is from Carracastle Parish, his home at Bulcaun where live his brother Paddy, wife Nora, & family- Marie, Joseph, Edward, John, Kevin, Dermot.
Mons. Joseph Spellman, of Ballaghaderreen, retired P.P. Collooney, is also 50 years a priest.

Cemetery - a fine job has been done- strimming of grass. Gathering up & removal this week. Ideal now if people would remove old wreaths etc. from graves. Please don't put clay in Bin.

Helpers wanted by Rooskey Defribrillator committee for bag-packing at Tesco on Sat. 27th. June, from 10 -7pm. A few hours is all that is required from anyone. Please contact Attracta Gallagher 086-0883939 so that a rota of 4-at-a-time can be arranged

Hurling Champions Scoil Iosa boys team achieved super victory over fancied Tooreen N.S. in the Final, 9 a-side of Cumann na mBunScoil Div. 2, played at Claremorris last Wed. eve. The final score 5-3 to 0-4 might give impression of an easy victory but up to the last it was a close & keenly contested game with the goals coming late on. Congratulations to the team & subs. captained by Ryan Kelly. Huge credit to Teachers Michael Bracken & Dermot Dillon. To principal Marian Maloney who arranged generous home-coming party in Scoil Iosa after for team, pupils & parents who travcelled to give great support. Mrs Maloney thanked Gerry & Marie Gallagher Bus Transport for kindly sponsoring costs of Falioctar Catering who came Caisheal Gaels, recently formed Hurling Club, U-14's go to play Westport this Sun. 7pm.

A Belgian couple flew to Sligo, train to Ballymote, walking to Westport via Rooskey on Fri. B/B in Charlestown. Belgium has a dense population, an example of tourism possibilities.

Sunflower Day for Cancer... packets of sunflower seeds are on sale at Davey's & Benson's.

Bog Fire Some acres of forest plantation were destroyed north of Brackloon Bridge Thurs. Charlestown & Tober Fire Brigades came on Fri. due to fire gone down into ground & wind.

Flock to the Lough , will take place on one day Sunday 28 June at Monasteraden N.S.

Marian Pilgrimages : walk the Way of St. James Camino de Santiago, Spain, 21st to 25 July to arrive for big celebration of Feast of St. James. 835eur per person. See notice-board.

Major Road works are underway from Tunnagh Cross to Rooskey School. A machine is 'shredding' the road surface, which will be then spread by a grader, rolled & finished with top-coat. A new idea to recycle/reuse the existing road materials rather than to make the road surface even by applying more, & thereby raising the level of the road. Diversions are in place.
